RHRC – The Arakan Army (AA) is conducting military operations in northern Maungdaw Township, forcing many Rohingya to flee their homes.
The violence began after a Rakhine man from Kyan Pyin village went missing. Some Rakhine media and social media users claimed ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) kidnapped him. In response, armed Rakhine groups have entered Rohingya villages, searching for the man.
At the same time, AA soldiers have blocked northern Rohingya villages, stopping people from leaving. Villagers say AA forces have forced entire communities, including children, to stay in open fields without food or shelter. Troops have also searched homes, damaging property.
In Jarakhali Taung village, AA soldiers took at least three Rohingya and stabbed another man during a raid. Nearby villages like U Shey Kya and Tha Yet Oke are also under lockdown, with no one allowed to leave.
Meanwhile, groups of armed Rakhine men—around 50—have been roaming Rohingya areas, shouting threats like, “Leave our land! Go back to your country!”
Rohingya leaders say the AA is not stopping these attacks, which remind them of past violence in 2012. Many fear the situation will worsen, leading to more people fleeing.
