RHRC-The Rohingya community continues to face grave threats to their lives and safety, both in refugee camps in Bangladesh and within conflict-hit Rakhine State, Myanmar.
Killing in Nayapara Camp
On May 9, a 40-year old resident Mohamed Hasan from Nayapara Refugee Camp in Bangladesh, was fatally stabbed in a verbal altercation with his neighbors. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. while Hasan went to fetch water from a tube-well near his shed. According to the investigation, three individuals Sukkur, Bulu (alias Dil Mohammed), and Hamid Hossain attacked Hasan with knives and daggers causing serious injuries.
Nearby residents intervened and rescued the victim, immediately rushing him to the camp clinic and later referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead. The incident has caused significant concern among the camp residents, who are now urging authorities to bring the attackers to justice and ensure greater security in the camps.
Rohingyas Detained by Arakan Army
According to the crossing border in Myanmar’s Booyi Taung Township, the situation for Rohingyas remains equally dire. On May 12, 20 the Rohingya villagers were reportedly detained by the Arakan Army (AA) while they were collecting bamboo shoots from a forest which is near the Booyi Taung railway station. According to the witness of a survivor, the group was rounded up by AA members and taken to an unknown place. However, the villagers fear for their safety, calling the incident part of a growing pattern of intimidation and abuse against civilians.
Indian Authorities Allegedly Threw Rohingya
There are accusations against Indian officials that 43 Rohingya migrants who were being held in the capital, New Delhi, were thrown overboard after being forcibly transported to international waters On 7th May. Reports claim that the refugees were escorted near Myanmar’s maritime border and made to unload into the ocean. The elderly, women, and children were among them. Only life jackets were given to them, and they had to swim to safety. Concern has been raised about this cruel act worldwide, especially by human rights organizations.
Therefore, recent incidents urge the urgent need for protection, justice, and humanitarian intervention for Rohingyas facing violence in refugee camps and ongoing oppression in Myanmar. Without humanitarian action, their safety and dignity remain at serious risk.
