Bangladesh, July 8, 2023: In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Rohingya refugee community, a Rohingya camp Majhee (leader) was mercilessly shot to death at camp 3 of Kutupalong, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on July 6, 2023, by members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). The heinous act has not only claimed an innocent life but has also fueled serious concerns about the safety and security of the general refugee population within the camp. The victim, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, paid the ultimate price for refusing to support ARSA’s illegal activities. As a staunch advocate for peaceful coexistence and an opponent of violence, the Majhee bravely stood up against the extremist group’s agenda. Unfortunately, this act of courage resulted in his brutal murder, leaving behind a community lled with grief, fear, and outrage.
The Rohingya refugee camps, which have been established to provide temporary shelter and protection for those who ed violence and persecution in Myanmar, are meant to be places of safety and security.

However, the recent incident has shed light on the vulnerability of the refugees within the camp, who now live in constant fear for their lives. Authorities and organizations responsible for the welfare of the Rohingya refugees must take immediate action to address the escalating insecurity. The protection of innocent refugees should be of paramount importance, and stringent measures need to be implemented to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.

The ARSA, an insurgent group that emerged in response to the oppression faced by the Rohingya population, claims to ght for the rights of the Rohingya people. However, the group’s recent actions have cast doubt on its true intentions and have only served to endanger the lives of those it
purports to protect. Urgent calls for justice have been made, with demands for a thorough investigation into the incident and the apprehension of the perpetrators.
