RHRC – Rohingya communities face escalating land seizures, violence, abductions, sexual abuse, and forced labor in Myanmar, while insecurity in Bangladesh camps and humanitarian hardship in Indonesia continue to intensify.
Planned Seizure of Rohingya Farmland in Kyauktaw
Rohingya residents in Kyauktaw Township reported that nearly 196 acres of farmland belonging mainly to Rohingya families may be confiscated by the ULA for factory and workshop projects. Around 500 villagers depend on the land for survival. Farmers rejected the proposed compensation, alleging unfair targeting of Rohingya-owned land. Residents also claimed several farmers were briefly detained after protesting the acquisition process.
Human Rights Watch Accuses Arakan Army of Rohingya Massacre
Human Rights Watch accused the Arakan Army of killing or forcibly disappearing at least 170 Rohingya civilians in Hoyyar Siri village, Buthidaung Township, during violence in May 2024. Survivors reported shootings, arson, torture, and looting. The Arakan Army denied responsibility. Rights groups continue to call for accountability, humanitarian access, and protection for Rohingya civilians.
Three Rohingya Cattle Herders Reportedly Detained in Maungdaw

Report Raises Alarm Over Sexual Violence Against Rohingya Women
A new report highlighted increasing allegations of rape, gang rape, and abuse against Rohingya women and girls in areas under Arakan Army control in northern Rakhine State. Rights groups called for independent investigations and stronger international protection measures.
Pregnant Rohingya Women Forced into Labor
Residents in Buthidaung Township reported that pregnant Rohingya women were forced to perform fish-cleaning labor by the Arakan Army on 15 May. Villagers expressed concern over the treatment of vulnerable civilians.

UN Appeals for $710 Million for Rohingya Response
The United Nations and humanitarian partners appealed for $710.5 million under the 2026 Joint Response Plan to support Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh. Nearly 1.2 million Rohingya refugees remain in Bangladesh, while continued conflict in Arakan has displaced thousands more.

A Rohingya man was killed in a shooting at Nayapara Registered Refugee Camp in Teknaf on 15 May. Residents said the attack was linked to rivalry between Rohingya armed groups operating inside the camp.
