Fires Break Out in Camp 2W and 3, Damaging Property
RHRC – A fire broke out at the CiC office hall in Camp 2W on February 6, 2026, around 12:10 pm, residents said. The fire was quickly controlled by community members and volunteers. Local people said the fire started due to an electrical problem. No one was badly hurt, though one woman was injured while trying to get out. Some office items were damaged, and authorities said safety checks will be carried out.
In another incident, a fire broke out late at night on January 31, 2026, in Camp 3, Block G, near Camp 5. One shelter was damaged, but no one was hurt. Camp residents rushed to help and stopped the fire from spreading. The affected family lost their belongings and now needs urgent support.
Five Injured in Shooting During Teknaf BNP Campaign
At least five people, including three children and two Rohingya refugees, were hurt by gunfire during a BNP election campaign in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, on the night of February 6, 2026, police said. The shooting happened around 8:00 pm on a road near a Rohingya camp in the Aliakhali area. Police said the victims were hit by small pellets and taken to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital. Two of them were later sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in serious condition. A local man is suspected, and police are trying to arrest him. People nearby said the shooting caused fear and panic.
Rohingya Youths Arrested and Forced to Pay Money in Sittwe
Rohingya youths in Sittwe Township were arrested, beaten, and detained by Myanmar forces during night curfew hours on January 27, 2026, residents said. Witnesses said the youths were stopped on the streets, beaten without explanation, and taken to detention centers.
Families were later told to pay up to 500,000 kyats to secure their children’s release. Many parents said they had to sell belongings or borrow money to pay the amount. Rohingya Youths Forced to Join Armed Group in Buthidaung
Fear is growing in Buthidaung Township after Rohingya youths were taken from their villages by the Arakan Army on February 4, 2026, residents said. Families said the youths were taken against their will and were not allowed to refuse. Villages were ordered to send young people, including women, for military service, residents said. Many youths are now hiding in forests or fleeing to other areas, while parents say they live in constant fear for their children’s safety.
