RHRC-Recent updates have seen a surge in violence, intimidation, and forced displacement of Rohingya, both inside Myanmar and across the border in India and Cox’s Bazar. Reports point to killings, nightly assaults, land seizures, and mass deportations, leaving the community in fear and uncertainty.

Rohingya refugee killed in Nayapara

On 31 August 2025, a Rohingya refugee from Nayapara Camp, Cox’s Bazar was kidnapped by an armed group inside the camp. He was severely beaten and tortured before being sent back home alive but in a critical condition.  Family members immediately took him to Cox’s Bazar Medical College Hospital, and later he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for further treatment. He died later that day due to the injuries he sustained.  Community members reported that his entire body showed marks of extreme physical torture, leaving residents deeply shocked and fearful. The incident has added to the growing sense of insecurity inside the camp.

Beating and Extortion in Maungdaw

September 4, 2025, Rohingya of Minlagyi village in Maungdaw Township report that Rohingyas are facing nightly violence and intimidation from Arakan Army troops. Locals say anyone seen outside their homes after 7 p.m. is beaten, shot, extorted, and verbally abused. Rohingyas caught outside are assaulted regardless of age. On September 3, two elders over 60 were beaten when they went to the mosque. The patrol mocked, threatened them with guns, and told them to “leave if they could not stay.” Four other people returning from the mosque were ambushed, kicked, and pressed under boots until nearly unconscious, which was supposed to kill and  that “no one, including international organizations, can help.”

Rakhine Families Relocated into Buthidaung

On 28 August 2025, locals reported the Arakan Army relocating Rakhine families from Rathedaung and nearby areas into Buthidaung. Rohingya residents fear this is part of a systematic plan to take over their land. Villagers described growing anxiety as more Rakhine settlers arrive, further straining an area already tense from ongoing conflict.

India Expels Rohingya Refugees

On 29 August 2025, Human Rights Watch reported that India expelled hundreds of Rohingya since May, including UN-registered refugees. At least 192 were pushed into Bangladesh, while 40 were forced into the sea near Myanmar. Rohingya survivors described beatings, confiscation of belongings, and threats at gunpoint. UN experts condemned the deportations as violations of international law and urged India to halt the expulsions.

Therefore, from violent crackdowns in Rakhine to forced expulsions in India, Rohingya continue to face systematic persecution. These developments highlight a growing humanitarian crisis that demands urgent international attention and protection for one of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
